CANON INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME: Luke Castellan
CANON: Percy Jackson and the Olympians
HISTORY:

STRENGTHS: + Charismatic — He goes out of his way to help others, bolsters your confidence and speaks with a passion. What isn't to love? Aside from the first two parts possibly being fake, but eh. He's easy to like, easy to grow close to and easy to admire. At least one of his masks is, anyway. The passion, however, is very true to him, and its partly because of this that he was able to recruit so many demigods against the gods.
+ Protective — Although he does end up betraying his family by siding against them in the war against Kronos, he tries his hardest to keep them from being harmed, using his skills of persuasion and his position to encourage, time and time again, leave them alone or keep them alive, particularly in Annabeth's case. Early on in the canon, he also assures that he will let no harm come to them, and though he eventually breaks this promise, it's clear the intent was there, given his later actions despite them being on opposite sides of the war.
+ Passionate — Luke feels very strongly about his ideals, and it shows in his actions and his words. His belief that family should be there for each other resounds in his desire to keep them from harm and in the anger he holds towards his father. His belief that he has been neglected and abandoned allows him to create a compelling argument that gets many demigods who feel the same way to rally with him in war. Even though he sometimes compromises on his ideals, he never completely gives them up.
FLAWS: - Rash — For every carefully crafted tactical plan, Luke himself is a very emotional individual and is prone to impulse. It's clear that while he hated the gods, he doesn't fully consider the consequences of teaming up with Kronos. Especially towards the end of the first series, he regrets his decision and attempts to escape his predicament (unsuccessfully) and also actively fights against Kronos. There are also parts that show he was very unwilling to do some of the things he was forced into, such as going into the River Styx.
- Vengeful — All demigods have a fatal flaw, and Luke's may well be his thirst for vengeance. Growing up with a very painful, scary and stressful childhood has fostered in him a lot of anger and hostility, particularly toward his father, which eventually grew into a general hatred for the Olympian gods. This grudge eventually leads him to betraying even his closest family in his quest for justice— not just on his behalf, but on the behalf of all the unclaimed demigods who felt neglected and ignored by their god parents.
- Insecure — It is Luke's insecurity in himself, coupled with his thirst for vengeance, that made him the perfect tool for Kronos. It is clear in his interactions with Hermes that he is desperately seeking to understand why his father didn't intervene more in his life and potentially mitigate or prevent some very difficult struggles for him, and the answer of “gods aren't allowed to intervene” wasn't a satisfactory answer for him. He believes the true reason to be that he was lacking in some way so that his father was not compelled to safe him from an awful life. Getting revenge on the gods, then, is not just a matter of revenge, but of proving himself; that his father was wrong in abandoning him in his time of need.

CANON ABILITIES: Canonically, Luke himself is not described as actively having any supernatural gifts, aside from the effects of the Curse of Achilles he obtains later on in the series. However, according to Hermes' description, it may be speculated that he has a natural inclination for some of his traits, and there may even be a supernatural component to them.

Near Invincibility — Aside from a spot under his left arm, close to the underarm, Luke is completely invulnerable to any sort of injury. However, even a small injury to this area would result in death.

Enhanced Athletic Ability — Strength, speed, agility, reflexes, endurance, and fighting skills are increased to supernatural levels. Due to Hermes being god of athletes, it's likely Luke was already quite advanced in these areas and the Curse of Achilles bolstered this natural gift even further.

Magical Endurance — Powers take less effort to use.

Natural Leader — Luke is able to coerce demigods and minor gods to fight on his side of the war, and is able to rally them in battle. Hermes being the god of orators and diplomacy may influence this trait, giving him extra charisma.

Poker Face — Luke can treat someone he fully intends to stab in the back with all the familiarity of a good friend and not bat an eye while doing it. Put in a less hostile way, he's very good at playing a given role when he needs to, allowing for the advantage of surprise. Hermes being the god of wit and cunning may also aid in this skill.

Skilled Swordsman — Somewhat related to his enhanced athletic ability, Luke is an exceptional swordsman. When he was still in Camp Halfblood, he was said to be their best swordsman. Hermes being the god of athletes may enhance his already abnormally quick demigod reflexes.

Stealth — As a kid who grew up on the streets, Luke had to find one way or another to provide for himself and his close friends. Though not explicitly stated, it is easy to assume one of the methods he used was thievery, which requires a certain level of stealth. Hermes being the god of thieves may influence these skills.
